Resumen:
Abstract The effect of intermittent feeding on compensatory growth in juveniles stage III of Cherax quadricarinatus was evaluated. The experiment consisted of alternate periods of feeding and starvation until moult to stage IV, followed by a refeeding period. Juveniles were divided into eight treatments of intermittent feeding and two controls. This protocol began with starvation of the juveniles. After the first moult, the growth increment (GI) and specific growth rate (SGR) were significantly different between treatments and all were significantly lower than continuous feeding (CF). At 15 and 30 days, the GI and SGR showed not differences in relation to CF showing the capacity to compensate growth in this juvenile stage although survival was significantly lower in treatments that began starvation with more than 4 days.
