Resumen:
Brassinoeteroids(BRs) are steroidal compounds that are essential for plant growth anddevelopment. It was shown that BRs can also provide plants tolerance/resistanceto a wide range of biotic and abiotic stresses in a dose dependent manner. Theaim of this work was to evaluate some defence biochemical markers such as H2O2,O2.- and callose in strawberry plants of the cv. Pájarotreated with the BRs 24-epibrasinolide (EP24) and the commercial formulationBIOBRAS 16 (BB16). Defence related oxidative burst was evaluated by twohistochemical staining, and H2DCF-DA fluorescent probe. Callosedeposition was studied by histochemical staining with aniline blue. Theinfluence of BRs on stomatal aperture was evaluated in epidermal strips of Vicia faba. Results show that strawberryplants treated with EP24 and BB16 showed increased production of H2O2and O2.-, and higher callose deposition as compared tothe control plants. However, stomatal closure was only observed in leaf strips treatedwith BB16. These results reveal that BRs can also be used for the activation ofinnate immunity in strawberry plants, hence could be used as a new strategy forthe control of strawberry plants diseases, environmentally friendly andalternative to agrochemicals.
