Resumen:
Models can be understood as semiotic objects. They consist of diagrams and equations, both belonging to the category of icons in Peirce?s theory of sings. The aim of this poster is to exemplify these claims by means of a model with methods of statistical physics and multi-agent simulations. According to Peirce?s theory of signs not only diagrams but also equations belong to the category of icons. In few words, they are ?analytic pictures? (s. Peirce CP 1.275). By the observation and manipulation of them. This manipulation consists in the composition and decomposition of their elements (synthetic and analytic aspects). From observation and manipulation new knowledge obtains. Now, this knowledge is basically related, strictly speaking, to formal or structural features. By means of accurate indices, the icons can be applied to different domains, so that specific properties of the domain can be asserted (see v.g. Legris 2014). Hence, analogies between different domains can be inferred.
