KNOWPEC, Knowledge for pesticides control, aims to create atransnational research network between Europe and Latin Americafocused on the challenge of unwanted pesticides in the environment.KNOWPEC wants to identify the occurrence and fate of banned and toxicpesticides in drinking and natural waters in agricultural areas of LatinAmerica where knowledge on occurrence and risk is scarce. KNOWPECwants to assess the environmental and human risks of the pesticidesdetected, and to provide solutions for both reducing pollution at source,and remediating contaminated water. Together, KNOWPEC will promotethe sharing of knowledge at each step from pesticide analysis, toxicityand risk assessment to advanced treatment technologies that jointlyenables the design of sustainable solutions to each pesticide pollutionproblem. Moreover, we want to create the tools of information andnetworking for a source of collaboration between European and LatinAmerica institutions under the framework of the environment andhuman protection from pesticides.
