Resumen:
This work will present Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence Analysis induced by Synchrotron Radiation of oral fluids suchas saliva and subgingival fluid, dental calculus and plaque. The process of calculus formation is not well understood yet. At present several theories of calculus growing exist butnone of them can explain in detail the complicated mechanism of crystalization involved[1, 2].The samples are collected from adult patient in a dental office and deposited on reflector carriers for analysis. Afterdrying under lamp, an internal standard is added in order to perform a quantitative analysis. The experiments will becarried out in the XRF beam-line of the LNLS using monochromatic photons and white beam. A conventional energydispersive setup will be employed. The data will be analyzed with the usual spectrum analysis procedure. The results will be used to establish correlationsbetween elemental concentrations of the different fluids and calculus and palque. Moreover, the importance of someelements such as Zn and Cu will be investigated since they seem to play a significant role in the development of severaldiceases.
