Resumen:
Research on the development of a closed-loop articial pancreas for automatically regulatingthe Blood Glucose (BG) level in Type 1 DiabetesMellitus (T1DM) patients has intensied in the pastyears. However, the risk of hyper- and hypoglycemiaremains an impediment to good glycemic control insome cases. A major source of limitations originatesfrom model uncertainty, and the extremely high inter-and intra-patient variability that aects the dynamicsof glucose regulation. Therefore, tools are requiredfor the design of robust and time-varying controlstrategies that consider these issues. This work provides a general introduction to char-acterize intra-patient variations in glucose dynamicsfrom its physiological description, and reviews avail-able modeling/simulation approaches that includethem, and therefore, allow the design of more sophis-ticated glucose controllers.
