Resumen:
An in-line hydrogen purification process, based on hydride formingmaterials, is presented. The work is part of a study to assess the convenienceof recovering hydrogen gas from a metallurgic manufacturing plant. The plantcurrently uses a 24 Nm3/h flow of hydrogen in a superficialreduction process, during which small amounts of impurities are incorporated tothe stream. Such contaminants, as measured by gas chromatography and adew-point sensor, include up to 1000 ppm of H2O, 300 ppm of CO2,10 ppm of CO and 7 ppm of CH4. The dew-point is continuouslymonitored in-line as a measure of the inlet gas quality. In order to reuse thisgas, these contaminants must be removed. Standard options, such as PSA, are notcommercially available for this scale, thus requiring additional R&D effortto be considered.
