Resumen:
Glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferases (GPATs) 4 isoforms have been described in mammals. They catalyze the first and limiting step in glycerolipid synthesis. GPAT 1 and 2 are located in the outer mitochondrial membrane; GPAT 3 and 4 are in the endoplasmic reticulum. GPAT 2 Mitochondrial enzyme, identified in liver from Gpat1-/- mice. Not expressed in lipogenic tissues like the other GPAT isoforms. mRNA and protein are abundant in testis. The main product of its activity is phosphatidic acid and is selective for arachidonoyl-CoA as substrate. Is present in certain cancer-derived human cell lines and tumors. Recently involved in piRNA biogenesis
