Resumen:
Dual frequency signals transmitted by GNSS satellites to allow accurate positioning offers an excellent means to monitor and study ionosphericTotal Electron Content (TEC) and ionospheric irregularities. These ionospheric characteristics are of great importance for satellite navigation but also for ionospheric and space weather monitoring and research. For this reason they have been called ?satellites of opportunity? for ionospheric related investigation. By now hundreds of GNSS receivers around the globe are able to obtain information about ionospheric conditions at all times. This information complements and integrates substantially the amount of ionospheric data available from other sources. However, to obtain the maximum benefit from GNSS derived TEC it is necessary to calibrate these data removing biases always present. Different techniques have been developed for this purpose. The workshop is intended to introduce the participants to the use of GNSS derived TEC in satellite navigation and ionospheric and space weather research. The main part of the workshop will be devoted to provide theoretical information about some of the TEC calibration techniques and to actually practice them in the computer laboratory in order to assure their appropriate utilisation.
