The elite germplasm in use was originated mainly by traditional materials from Europe and CIMMyT. Our group have a collection of 170 materials from different origins, like Argentina, Italy, Chile, France, Mexico, US and WANA region (West Asia and North Africa), consisting mainly on spring and only one winter varieties. These materials were genotyped by using AFLP and SNP markers and phenotyped for different traits at five locations in different years giving different number of year/location combinations. Here we present a list of the varieties and its characterization by using AFLPs and SNPs.The cluster analysis using molecular markers showed a good picture of the origin of the Argentinean genotypes. These analyses indicated that while Italian materials contributed to traditional Argentinean genotypes, there was a high genetic contribution from modern Italian cultivars and Mexican germplasm from CIMMyT to modern Argentinean materials during the last 25 years
