Resumen:
Organotin(IV) compounds have been the aim of several research owing projects not only to their versatile chemistry but their potential as biologically active compounds. Among the most studied organotin(IV) complexes a special emphasis has been placed on the study of carboxylates as potential metallotherapeutic drugs,1 however, a wide spectrum of biological activities such as anti-microbial,2 anti-inflammatory3 and anti-fungal4 among others remains a subject of intense study.5In this work, a detailed analysis of the MOs involved in electronic transitions in UV spectra as well as photodegradation reactions of some heptacoordinate Tin(IV) complexes are presented. Based on experimental solvent effects and theoretical investigations the long-wavelength bands have been assigned to π → π* transitions caused by HOMO→LUMO and HOMO-1→LUMO transitions (figure 1a). The photochemical study was performed into a photolysis equipment using an Hg lamp (λ=254nm) and the reaction was followed by UV spectroscopy using ACN as solvent. As it is possible to see in figure 1b, 40 min are necessary to decompose the complex. The presence of two isosbestic points, let us to know that a unique process is occurring in the photolysis reaction.
