Resumen:
Choline deficiency (CD) in weaning rats produce kidney, heart, liver, eyes and central nervous system damage. Oxidative damage (OD) may be involved in CD. The aim of this work was to evaluate the correlation between heart damage induced by CD and OD. Two groups of weaning Wistar rats (21 days), one receiving a diet deficient in choline (CD)and the other feed a diet rich in choline (CG), were evaluated. Rats were sacrificed at third, fifth, sixth and seventh day previous blood obtention for CKP, LDH, GPT, GOT, urea and creatinine measure. Histology, anatomopathologic studies and markers of oxidative stress, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and chemiluminiscence were determined. Histological studies showed cellular death in CD rats sacrificed at the seventh day, including necrosis, hemorrhage, and polimorfonuclear infiltration and progressive significative increase in CPK in CD rats, with p= 0.048 at seventh day. TBARS in CD rats were higher than controls (56 ±8 and 21 ± 4 nmol/mg prot, respectively, p
