Evaluation of peripheral markers of oxidative stress in Graves´disease patients after antithyroid treatments.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the involvement of free radicals in the active Graves´ disease through the study of the balance between antioxidants and pro-oxidants. Methods: 12 hyperthyroid patients (9 women and 3 men) of mean age 34 years with> 9 months of disease progression were studied. Parameters evaluated were: 1) chemiluminescence initiated by tert-butyl hydroperoxide (QL), 2) superoxide dismutase (500), 3) catalase (CAT), 4) glutathione plasma antioxidant capacity (TRAP).
