Resumen:
In the research proposal to develop Accident Tolerant Fuels (ATF), resurfacing materials such as steel and various alloys thereof, and new compounds such as SiC. These materials were developed in response to the problem of such accidents. It is intend to make an analysis of fuel behaviour which takes into account all the phenomena involved in nuclear fuels and a thermo-mechanical 3-D analysis with tools developed at the National Atomic Energy Commission. This toolkit has been validated over time with experimental results and has participated in numerous Coordinated Research Project (CRP) like FUMEX II and III of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).Moreover a fundamental aspect to determine its implementation is a neutronic calculation that determines the complete adaptation from the reactors currently operating and in case of being achievable, improve performance parameters, such as burnup extension and the subsequent extension of cycle within the reactor.Finally, it is proposed to conduct an economic analysis of the implementation of these new materials and processes that influence on the fuel cycle of a typical PWR.
