Resumen:
Surface glycoproteins that compose the glycocalyx of trophoblast and uterine epithelium are important to embryo implantation. Lectinhistochemistry has been useful in the analysis of glycoconjugates of normal and pathological female genital tissues in domestic animals. In a preview paper we demonstrate changes in lectin binding patterns in the uterine tubes of sows with reproductive alterations. In the present works samples of uterus of 62 mature sows, with and without morphologic lesions were incubated with the byotinilated lectins: DBA, SBA, RCA-1, Con-A, UEA-1, PNA y WGA. Glandular and luminal uterine epithelium were observed. Cystic endometrial hiperplasia increased the RCAI reaction only in the apical region of the glandular epithelium. There was higher intensity of marcation of WGA in glandular epithelium in uteri with endometritis. In addition, increased Con A binding in the glandular epithelium and mild reduction of UEA-1 reactivity in the glycocalyx of the glandular epithelium were detected in endometritis. These changes were minor that ones found in other species and might be involved in reproductive failure, once uterus may not be capable of providing the optimal microenvironment for an early embryo growth.
