Resumen:
This paper focuses on the study of Greater Buenos Aires urban segregation patterns in the 90´s decade. The approach used within this paper consists in the analysis of secondary data – census and household surveys – to grade the level and changes in residential segregation. Variables that reflect the households´ socio-economic level as well as others that summarize aspects of urban infrastructure and access to services are used. Considering the urban space appropriation tendencies of the last decades that might show an increase in the territorial polarization for the extreme points of the social structure, it could be expected that the residential segregation might have increased. The paper’s structure develops in the following way: in the first place, the Greater Buenos Aires conglomerate is characterized and the demographic tendencies that took place in that region are reviewed. Secondly, the methodology is described and the results are shown. Finally, the conclusions are presented.
