We investigated the localized deformation bands in superelastic NiTi alloys.High-energy synchrotron-radiation is an adequate tool to provide crystallographic information such as phase state and texture with some space resolution. On the plateau of the stress/strain curve the transformation from cubic B2 austenite to monoclinic B19' martensite occurs in localized transformation shear bands (TSB). Residual austenite is observed to persist up to the end of the superelastic plateau. The plateau is associated with a displacement of the boundary of the TSBs. Once the boundary of the TSB has passed a certain point, there is no change of the phase state at that point when the boundary of the TSB proceeds further up to the end of the plateau. The variant orientation texture is different at the surface from that present in the bulk.
