?Family Farming in Argentina, new actors and organizational processes: the case of North Periurbano Buenos Aires?.

Our participation in the discussions of the "Agri-Food and Agribusiness Strategic Plan, 2010-2016? (?Plan Estratégico Agroalimentario y Agroindustrial, Participativo y Federal?) of the argentine national government, and our study of family farms in suburban Buenos Aires city, allow to reflect on family farming in Argentina. We emphasize their multifunctional role and their condition as productive actor of the food system. We recognize the fundamental role of the national state as regulator and promoter of differential policies for this sector (which may constitute an alternative paradigm for agribusiness) and the application of interdisciplinary social research, to improve the quality of rural life. We analyze their reproduction strategies, emergence of new actors and setting new organizational processes in contexts of confrontation and negotiation: poultry producers who are vertically integrated whit entrerprises and horticulturists whose experiences of organization from a state development program, create new marketing alternatives beyond the conventional markets.
