Resumen:
Rapid solidified Al based alloys have higher mechanical strength than commercial Al based alloys both at room temperature and elevated temperatures. The latter behaviour is very attractive for industrial applications as these rapid solidified alloys can be used as an alternative to Ti based alloys. In the present work the mechanical properties at elevated temperatures of nanostructured Al-Fe-Cr based alloys obtained by the melt spinning technique were studied. The Al93(Fe3Cr2)7 alloy was studied together with quaternary alloys with the addition of alloying elements such as Ti, V, Nb and Ta. The alloys showed a microstructure containing quasicrystalline particles of nanometric size and intermetallic particles embedded in an á-Al matrix. Tensile tests at a different test temperatures and different strain rates were performed and the creep parameters, activation energy and true stress exponent, were determined. The fracture surfaces of the tensile samples tested at different temperatures were analysed by scanning electron microscopy. A discussion of different models of strengthening and plastic deformation mechanisms has been carried out.
