Geoelectrical and electromagnetic induction methods to study contaminated soils with superficial leakage of hydrocarbons

We present the results of geoelectrical and electromagnetic induction methods applied to detect and delimit an hydrocarbons contaminated area. The joint implementation of these methods was done in order to enhance the resolution of the prospecting, since each method presents different sensitivity and resolution according to the physical properties of the different materials. The leakage of hydrocarbons was due to an accident beside Route 8, Alejo Ledesma, Córdoba Province, Argentina. On the basis of the results of this study Stabilization/Solidification method was applied to the remediation of the contaminated area. Geophysical surveys performed immediately after remediation showed that the contaminants are capsulated.
