Resumen:
The advantages of using biomass resources as precursors for Activated Carbons (ACs) production are well known. Moreover, and provided the production process can be diverted towards a particular porosity, it is very interesting to tailor the adsorbent`s surface chemistry towards a predomination of basic or acidic functional groups. In this line, recent studies announce the need of searching new precursors, in order to provide additional feedstocks for industrial production. With these premises, this work focussed on the production of ACs from orange peel (OP) and almond shells (AS), and the analysis of their use as nitrate adsorbents. Adsorption was also studied on two commercial ACs (COM1 and COM2), to provide a variety of porosity and surface chemistry features.
