Resumen:
The use of nonlinear loads such arc furnaces, result in harmonic voltage and current generation due to the dynamic behaviour involved in the arc operation. In the melting process, due to its electrochemical nature, currents and voltages waveform are influenced by several non-electrical variables. Most of time, the impedance between the electrode and the melting bath is changing. The electrode position and the environment conditions determine the arc impedance. In this paper, a harmonic analysis in a submerged arc Ferrosilicon Furnace is carried out. Several sets of measurements under specific operation conditions will be used in a subsequent stage of the research to characterize the furnace behaviour and identify the relationship between the harmonic levels and some specific chemical and mechanical variables in the furnace. This analysis allows establishing the viability of a novel furnace model considering harmonic spectrum. The most important implications related to the use of specific power quality equipment for data acquisition are presented. Special measurement considerations in an industrial environment using a particular measurement transformer topology and some parameters related to power quality are also considered.
