Development and Characterisation of novel nanostructured Al based composites

Different Al based nanostructured alloys and composites have been developed in the recent years containing several types of reinforcements and ductilizers in the nanoscale dimensions. Several works done by the authors have shown the use of metastable phases, such as quasicrystalline phases with improved stability, retain high strength at elevated temperatures, and the addition of Al as ductilizer particles improved considerably the toughness of the composites. The nanocomposites described in this work were obtained through manufacturing processes scalable up to a near industrial scale through powder atomization, compaction and extrusion. A thorough analysis of the microstructure and mechanical properties has been carried out.
