Resumen:
In recent years, great progress has been made in brain computer interface (BCI) research. Most current efforts remain at the stage of design validation or laboratory demonstration, but these demonstration systems have a long way to go to become practical devices. As a contribution, an embedded, autonomous and portable BCI, able to implement different assistive devices, is presented. In particular, a BCI based on steady state visual evoked potentials (SSVEP) was built and tested. The hardware and software solutions used for the effective detection of these potentials are presented. Preliminary experimental results show that the implemented BCI has similar performance, in terms of information transfer rate, that similar versions based on personal computers (PC), but on a compact platform and without any dependency on PCs and voluptuous EEG acquisition systems.
