Resumen:
We have studied 180 biopsies and sections of uterine cervical cones that had been processed by routine methods, paraffin embedded and stained with HE. The diagnostics were grouped as: normal epithelia, invasive carcinoma and a number of epithelial alterations as dysplasia or carcinoma in situ. These ones were regrouped (as Ferenczy suggests) in CIN l (mild dysplasia), II (moderate dysplasia) and IIl (severe dysplasia ? carcinoma in situ). In each case a simple cytomorphometric technique was used: longitudinal and transverse nuclear and citoplasmic diameters were determined of basal, parabasal, intermediate and superficial cells. Results were evaluated by Student´s test and analysis of variance. We established different cell populations corresponding to: 1) Normal epithelium (ectocervical mature and immature squamous metaplasia), 2) Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia, 3) lnvasive carcinoma, 4) Epithelium with atypical non neoplastic cell population. The cell population that conform CIN and invasive carcinoma are cytomorphometrically identical (p= non significant). The differences between these and normal epithelia are statistically significant (p<0.001). We identified a cell population that doesn´t present common characteristics neither with normal epithelia (p<0.001 ) nor with neoplastic epithelium (p<0.001). This cell population would correspond to atypical hyperplastic epithelium.
