Resumen:
In 12 human hearts collected between 1 and 19 days after the acule episode (AE) of myocardial infarction (MI), we studied the presence of the Ki67 antigen and markers for cardiomyocytes (CM), smooth muscle cells (SMC), macrophages (Mac) and endothelial cells (EC). At 6-8 days after the AE, 18-62% of the CM adjacent to the necrotic área were considered to be in endomitosis because they presented Ki67+ nuclei with an intact nuclear envelope containing condensed chromosomes and metaphase plates. In the same samples small cells with Ki67+ nuclei and mitotic bodies were observed dispersed among the macrophages invading the necrotic área. They were negative for SMC, Mac and EC, but positive for sarcomeric a-actin, they were considered to be myoblasts.
