Resumen:
The wound-healing assay provides valuable data to describe in vitro cell behaviour. In this article, we employ the Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS?) technique to study the effect of a chemical pollutant on the wound healing of Madin-Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells. The cell wound was achieved by means of an AC electrical current, which was applied once the cells had reached a confluence condition. After that, the cell healing process was monitored electrically at multiple frequencies. The experiments were carried out employing a standard culture medium containing a chemical pollutant, namely Diesel Exhaust Particles at different concentrations. With this data we were able to obtain healing curves in presence and absence of pollutant, and compare them. The results indicated that the presence of this pollutant inhibits (or at last slows down) the migration and proliferation of MDCK cells over a microelectrode.
