Resumen:
In this work, the refractory lining redesign of all the ladles in the steelshop of Tenaris Tamsa for steel capacity increase is described. Main driver for this redesign is to increase the heat, taking into account of the higher size of the new electric arc furnace. For the lining redesign definition, previous analysis were done by using numerical tools for estimating ladle thermal profile, steel capacity, thermal tensions and wear pattern. From this analysis, safety and isolating lining thickness and materials were redesigned, while metallic shell geometry and refractory working lining were not modified. First industrial trial was done in March 2012 with positive results from the point of view of thermal conditions and lining performance. Furthermore, trial progress included different lining designs that were evaluated, all of them designed for increased capacity. In this way, ladle lining design could be progressively adapted to the desired condition, a situation that was finally achieved for all the ladles under operation by April 2013.
