Taking in mind the locations of Al2O3-MgOC (AMC) refractories in steelmaking ladles, a high corrosion resistance is required, among other properties. Moreover, due to the presence of graphite, AMC refractories are susceptible to the attack of oxidant gases. In this work, the oxidation by air between 700 to 1400°C and the corrosion resistance to a basic ladle slag at 1450°C of two commercial AMC refractories were evaluated. Differences in the chemical degradation were related to differences in compositions and open pores characteristics between the studied material.
