Resumen:
This article is concerned with Shakespeare´s particular treatment of the classical Myth of the Graces in his Sonnets. The traditional doctrine refers to the Graces as three minor deities, so to speak, who bestow several gifts. The Renaissance interpreted these three beings as the ones who give, receive and return the gifts, achieving a sort of dance. Now, Shakspeare´s Sonnets reveal in some cases a deviation from the traditional pattern. The generous rhythm of giving, receiving and returning is reshaped into grotesque or self-centered patterns, so much so that the characters depicted appear as interested only in themelves; as if the myth of the Graces were transformed in a mock dance.
