Resumen:
This paper addresses production and shutdown shot-term planning in a petrochemical complex through the formulation of an MINLP problem, applying a property based representation. Linear mathematical models have been derived for most of the plants (Schulz et al., 2004). For some plants, bilinear equations derived from rigorous mathematical models have been obtained (Diaz et al., 1997); they take into account variations in production with key plant operating variables. The possibility of plant shutdowns has been included through the use of binary variables associated to each plant. Mass balances, bounds on product demands, equipment capacities and intermediate and final product storage tanks limitations have been considered. The objective function is the maximization of total profit for the entire site. The MINLP model has been implemented in GAMS (Brooke et al., 1992) with a discrete time representation. Different scenarios have been considered regarding the shutdown of any plant from the complex and numerical results have been discussed.
