The current implementation of tens of new recycling plants
is promoted by government sectors at different levels as a nationwide
priority in the integral management of urban solid waste. This growth
may be framed within the progressive consolidation of recycling as an
industrial process which is developed by private capitals in our
country. This practice is supported by new technologies which
increase the possibility that a variety of garbage materials may be
(re)incorporated as inputs to the productive process. In this
context, the development of a ?technology of classification? is
an essential requirement for the strengthening of this sector in
expansion. The analysis of initiatives as such is key to offering a
better comprehension of both waste management problematic in our
metropolitan area, and the role they hold, and/or the one they are
proposed to hold, by those who, with their daily work, make possible
the creation of a circuit of waste valorization through recycling.
