Resumen:
The uncertainty affecting wind resources has deep
economic and technical consequences on the design, planning and
operation of power systems. For this reason, long wind speed time
series are typically necessary for planning and integration studies
of this generation resource. Unfortunately, wind speed records of
very limited length are often the only available wind information
at the site of interest, which are typically insufficient for
performing many studies. In this work, an algorithm based on
spectral representation for generating synthetic wind speed time
series in high resolution is presented. The algorithm exploits the
limited available wind information and accurately replicates the
statistical and the stochastic dynamics feature of wind
observations. The modeling approach is non-parametric and
therefore it can be applied to any wind site. Statistical tests
indicate the simulated wind speeds can be further used with
confidence in the framework of power system studies.
