Resumen:
Zirconium (ZrO2) is a ceramic material that presents interesting applications such as biomedical, industrial and common articles like sunblockers and cosmetics [1]. New investigations have tried to understand the formation of core@shell particles [2] and their use in biomedical applications such as drug delivery, magnetic resonance images and cellular markers [3]. These materials can present, in nanomeric scale, important variations of their physicochemical properties. For example the toxicity of materials in nanomeric scale is in general bigger in comparison with the material in mayor scales. Studies in this area chases the objective of determinate how toxic this particles are for the environment and humanity [5]. The objective of this work is to study the cytotoxic effects of core@shell spheres with SiO2 core and crystalline ZrO2 shell (SiO2@ZrO2c) in human osteosarcoma cells (MG-63) and compare these results with the ones obtained with SiO2 core and amorphous ZrO2 shell (SiO2@ZrO2a). We study the cytoxicity of SiO2@ZrO2 with the MTT assay (metabolic reduction of a tetrazoil salt) and the oxygen reactive species (ROS) by oxidation of 123-dihydrorhodamine in MG-63 cells using different particle concentration for 24 h. The cellular viability decreased significantly (p
