Resumen:
In this work we present measurements of SEE for He+ on HOPG in 1-5keV energy range. Supported by a quantum time-dependent calculation of the atom-surface interaction process, we propose a two step mechanism for explaining the appearance of high energy secondary electrons, namely an Auger transition following the ion induced electron excitation to empty states in the conduction band. In order to study the influence of changes in the density of states of HOPG on the process of secondary electron production, we correlate changes in SEE due to He implantation with measurements of Energy Loss Spectroscopy, Electron Induced Secondary Emission, K Edge Absorption, and Scanning Tunnelling Spectroscopy.
