Resumen:
Fe-Cu skarn and hydrothermal deposits, at the Pepita Hill (SW Chubut Province), are related to Jurassic-Cretaceous magmatism. Detailed petrographic studies and whole rock geochemcial analyses performed on basalt-basaltic andesite flows (Lago La Plata Fm) and rhyolitic-dacitic dikes and subvolcanic bodies (El Gato Fm) allowed to characterize the meta-aluminous to weakly per-aluminous, tholeiite-calc-alkaline signature, associated to a magmatic arc setting. The iron source of the El Abuelo ore deposits is possibly related to the tholeiitic affinity of rocks from Lago La Plata Formation.
