Outside/Inside at Yutopian, Northwest Argentina

Three excavation seasons at the early Formative site of Yutopian, province of Catamarca, northwest Argentina, reveal overlapping but distintc activities undertaken within structures and in the (outside) patio areas of these structures. Interpretations of these suggest that the Formative micro-economy and gendered household arrangements include considerably more complexity than what usually is generalized and written off as ?domestic activities?. Morever, household economies at Yutopian deviate significantly from dominant models of Formative life wich enphasize household replicability, autonomy and strictly sexual divisions of labor
