Resumen:
NF-kappa B activation has been shown to be necessary for long-term memoryconsolidation in the mouse inhibitory avoidance learning paradigm. NF-kappa Bis activated in the nucleus of hippocampal cells in a specific temporal windowduring consolidation. Previous results showed that the transcription factor isalso present in synaptic terminals. More importantly we found NF-kappa Bstrongly bound to membranes of these terminals. This new finding poses thequestion, is there a local role for NF-kappa B? And if so, is it essential forlearning and memory? Another pool of NF-kappa B has been found in thesynaptosomal content, and its activation measured through Electro MobilityShift Assays (EMSA) is modified during consolidation of shocked mice, whencomparing to naïve and unshocked. The membrane bound NF-kappa Bincreases 5 minutes post training only in shocked mice. The re localization ofthe transcription factor could implicate a new function of NF-kappa B that mightintervene in the consolidation process. The aim of this research is to study thedynamics of synaptic NF-kappa B activation during consolidation, discussingthe novel localization of the transcription factor in membranes of synapticterminals.
