Resumen:
The wine-parrot (Amazona vinacea) is endemic to the Atlantic and is associated with the ecosystem of Parana pine (Araucaria angustifolia). It is critically endangered according to IUCN and Appendix I of CITES because of pets and the reduction of their habitat. Since 2003, Temaikèn Foundation has aimed to help this species through environmental education activities and knowing their reproductive biology in order to provide the permanence of natural populations within the framework ¨ Ecosystem Conservation Project Parana Pine ¨. In 2005, a breeding stock of 11 wild specimens was obtained by the environmental authorities of the province of Misiones, which were kept as pets. On the premises of the Temaikèn foundation five breeding couples were formed from the group, which resulted in 11 pigeons. In April 2011 they were returned to the province to fulfill an educational role in the Guira-Oga Rescue Center, Rehabilitation and Breeding Wild Animals. This captive breeding experience allowed us to develop natural and artificial reproductive protocols that provide us with tools in the future, implement recovery plans in situ population. We consider it essential to complement the efforts ex situ activities with the community to generate a positive reaction to the species, as well as field studies to assess the feasibility of recovery of natural populations.
