Resumen:
Activated carbons have been widely used in the environmental improvement, for their adsorption capacity, which makes them suitable for remove diverse pollutants from liquid and/or gaseous effluents. The extensive application of these carbonaceous materials has promoted the search of renewable supplies for their obtaining. In this work, the activated carbons production using as precursors sugar cane mill fibrous wastes are studied, by pyrolysis and subsequent gasification with low oxygen concentrations or carbon dioxide of high purity, at different temperatures and gasification times. The characteristics of the prepared adsorbents at different operation conditions are analyzed from the evaluation of their adsorption capacity. In that way the edsorption isotherms with nitrogen at 77 K are determined and the specific areas are calculated. It was determined that these wastes as well as the gasificating agent used were appropriate to prepare activated carbons. The gasification conditions affect the quality of the obtained product.
