Resumen:
This paper summarizes the results of the Argentinean contribution to the first phase of the coordinated research project of the International Atomic Energy Agency aimed at assessing the cost effectiveness of nuclear power compared to CO2 capture and storage from fossil fuel power plants. Research institutes from nine countries, namely Argentina, Australia, China, India, Korea, Pakistan, Poland, Romania and Russia participate in the project. Our activities thus far involved: the compilation of key characteristics of large stationary CO2 sources in Argentina with special emphasis on the electricity sector; a high level assessment on sources and geological storage sites matching; and a case study based on an existent power plant concerning the conceptual design of post and pre-combustion capture facilities.
