Resumen:
Surgical planning followed by computer-assisted intraoperative
navigation in orthopaedics oncology for tumor resection have given
good results in the last five years. However, it is still not clear how to
quantify the discrepancies between what is planned and what is actually
executed during the surgery. Our purpose is to develop and
validate a method capable of estimating the angle and offset deviation
between the planned resection plane and the one executed. The
estimation algorithm uses as inputs a computer tomographic (CT) scan
of the resected surgical specimen and the planned resection plane. The
validation is performed with a custom computer application that allows
to create and position resection planes over the executed resection
region. Orthopaedics oncology surgeons use this application to set a
ground truth that is compared against the automatic estimation.
