Resumen:
Considering various ecosystems (forest, shrublands and grasslands of central Argentina), at different geographical scales (local to regional), plant litter decomposability was not associated to in situ decomposition or nutrient availability. Direct climatic and/or microenvironmental control of decomposition seems to be uncoupled with its indirect control over litter quality and decomposability.
