Resumen:
In Bahía Samborombón Pluvialis squatarola, Arenaria interpres and Numenius phaeopus forage on fiddler crabs (Uca uruguayensis). These shorebirds showed distinct patterns of feeding behavior depending on the behavior of U. uruguayensis. When crabs were waving A. interpres predation was more effective than when crabs were foraging. However, when crabs were foraging N. phaeopus showed a higher foraging rate than when crabs were waving. Foraging rate and efficiency of P. squatarola did not change with crab behavior. The evidences show that the behavior of U. uruguayenis strongly influence the foraging efficiency of some shorebird species. Furthermore, they demonstrate the males cost of attracting females differ with predator species.
