Resumen:
At the Beginning of 2004, Argentina was immersed in a serious problem of power supply, that has lasted until the present and that could constitute a future limit to social and economic national development. Argentinean’s problem of supplying can be seen as a problem of excess of demand over the available power supply, mainly electricity. The most serious situation appears in this sector, which has surprising arrived to a peak power demand of 17395 Mw on 31 July 2006 , whereas the installed power available of the sector is near 18600Mw. The discussion about the key factors of the situation remains without a consensus between the specialists, and must be raised within the framework of an analysis of structural and occasional factors that have change the rules in which the economy used to develop. Anyway, the question that remains without answer is whether will Argentina energy sector be able to reach sustainable development or not: Is market coordination by itself enough to assure energy supply in a developing country? The answer seems to be not. The lesson of the recent Argentinean experience should be taken into account and the necessity of application of power policies of long-term would seem to emerge from it
