Resumen:
The maladaptive cardiac growth is known as pathological hypertrophy in the scenery of disease (hypertension, aortic stenosis, myocardial infarction) and can progress to heart failure development. In contrast, exercise training induce an adaptive growth or physiological cardiac hypertrophy. The physiological adaptation to exercise involves the production and release of several growth factors and other humoral mediators among which, the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and apelin. We have previously demonstrated that swimming routine induce the conversion pathological into physiological hypertrophy in the spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) [1], also IGF-1, emulating the swimming routine produced: positive inotropic and antioxidant effect and inhibition of NHE-1 hyperactivity [2]. Since both factors apelin and IGF-1 show similar cardioprotective effects: improving cardiomyocytes contractility and antioxidant effect, we hypothesized that the antioxidant and mitochondrial effects of IGF-1 could be mediated by activation of apelinergic signaling pathway. Moreover, we proposed that the exposure to IGF-1 could stimulate the translocation of APJ and apelin sore in vesicles to plasma membrane.
