Resumen:
This paper aims to analyze, from a sustainability perspective, a social housing construction policy that seeks to relocate inhabitants of an informal settlement (Villa 31) in Buenos Aires. This aim implies considering the policy sustainability and -although closely related- the sustainability of the new housing buildings. Based on Kibert (2005), our paper mobilizes a broad notion of sustainability that considers the technical, environmental, institutional, social, and economic dimensions.Although the Program involves a series of mechanisms that take some attention to these points, its performance throughout its implementation calls into question its positive effects, we identified a series of difficulties that jeopardize the sustainability of the resettlement process and the inhabitant's capacity of housing appropriation.
