Modernization as a Political Program: context and compared features in China and South America

The presentation proposes a comparison between the concept of modernization as it was elaborated and carried on in practical terms as a political project in the People´s Republic of China (PRC) and South America. To do so, it examines its origins in both spaces, it relates the concept with the respective socioeconomic and historical context in which it was formulated and developed and, finally, it draws some conclusions stressing the manifest differences existing between the Chinese understanding of modernization and the South American experience.
