Resumen:
The modern phenomenon of the expansion of medicine into people´s lives has been addressed by several authors. In recent decades, however, critiques from health care users have challenged professional certainties and promoted professional reflexivity. Within the broader context of the crisis of medical authority, this work aims to situate the debates on the challenges of access to health services for transgender people in Argentina. Furthermore, by analysing health professionals´ discourses on their experiences of responding to the needs of transgender patients, it seeks to contribute to these debates.In-depth interviews were conducted with health professionals from the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, Argentina, between 2014 and 2022. Based on these interviews, reflections on medical authority and professional reflexivity in the context of health services for transgender people were addressed.I have a PhD in Social Sciences (Universidad de Buenos Aires) and I am a research assistant at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (Argentina), affiliated to the Universidad Nacional de José C. Paz (UNPAZ). My research consists in the study of the barriers and facilitators of transgender people´s access to health care institutions in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. This work is part of an ongoing research project. Preliminary results have been published in Farji Neer (2022).ReferencesFarji Neer, A. (2022).
