Migration of carvacrol from High Density Polyethylene

The main goal of this work was the study of carvacrol from High Dnsity Polyethylene (HDPE) in food preservation conditions. Migration tests of antioxidants were carried out in two simulants (distilled water and olive oil), ar two different temperatures: 25 and 40ºC in a water bath. Migration increases when the initial concentration of antioxidants is higher. Temperature also resulted in an increase in the release of the antioxidant due to the activation of both diffusion and desorption process that take place at higher temperatures. Diffusion coefficients where also calculated.
